We will explore the mythology around Anjaneyasana, delving into its historical origins and the transformative power it has in yoga.

Anjaneyasana: named after a baby named Anjaneya.

anjaneyasana mythology

He was born to a beautiful woman, Anjana, and the wind god, Vayu. Anjana wished to be a mother and Vayu listened to her.

The story goes that Lord Vayu blessed some grains of rice, sending them on the wind into Anjana’s hands.

When Anjana felt the rice in her hands, she decided to eat it and that is how she got pregnant.

Anjaneya was half mortal and half divine.

Being half divine, he was able to rise into the sky and one day, by mistake, he tried to bite the sun.

He had mistaken it for a mango!

The sun god, Surya, became angry, striking Anjaneya down with lightning, striking him in the jaw and killing him instantly.

When Vayu heard what happened, he was so furious that he sucked all the air in the universe and people couldn’t breathe.

Because of this, an emergency meeting between the gods was held.

The goal was to try to restore order and peace to the mortal and divine worlds.

Vayu did not exhale all the air he had inhaled until he had recovered his son, Anjaneya.

However, Surya was concerned about the boy’s precocious nature and divine powers, which could be dangerous to the world.

An agreement was reached in which Anjaneya would be renamed Hanuman.

This is how the story of hanuman was born

He would then be resurrected on the condition that he would have a short-term memory.

That way he wouldn’t be able to remember his divinity, or piety, long enough to cause harm.

Furthermore, Hanuman would be removed from his mother’s care and would live with the respected monkey king, Sugriva.

Esta es la historia de la postura de Anjaneyasana. Esta postura nos ayuda, como Anjaneya, a estirar y probar los límites.

However, instead of testing the limits by soaring into the sky, we are simply testing the limits of our physical body.

That is, testing and experiencing the state of our psoas muscle.

I hope this little story feeds your desire to continue exploring this beautiful physical and mental practice.
