This article is the first one of a series in which we will meditate on the complementarity of the Zodiac Signs and their possible meeting point with the practice of Yoga.
To address what astrology is, we will begin by exploring the Zodiac Signs.
WHAT ARE THE ZODIAC SIGNS?
When we think of ‘Taurus, Leo, Scorpio…’ we usually associate it with people or personality traits . However, these symbols represent something more vast.
Astrology is a symbolic language that enables a particular perceptual paradigm.
Through this language we can observe and access a reality that lies beyond what we perceive in our daily life. In other words, it opens up new dimensions of meaning.
Yoga allows us to access a world within us that goes beyond our earthly experience. It’s something that is always there.
When we manage to release it, we can become one with the outside in a harmonious way.
So the Zodiac Signs then, are one of the matrices of symbols that make up this language; a code.
Within each of the 12 Signs we can find the patterns and qualities that operate in everything that exists.
That is to say that they are representations of all of the aspects of the human experience (not just personality or individual experience). This includes the collective experience, the processes present in nature, the link between what I am and what I experience, among other things.
To understand what astrology is and to be able to begin to navigate its language, it is important to know that the signs actually interact with each other in a way that turns out to be quite enlightening. In order to do this we must address the Principle of Polarity and Polarization.
