Tips for future yoga teachers.
Choosing the right yoga teacher training for you
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Pilu, I have been practicing yoga for over 9 years and teaching for over 5.
I am an RYT 500hs certified teacher. I have done many YTT Yoga Alliance and non-Yoga Alliance:
- Ashtanga in India (non-YA)
- Yin in Indonesia (YA but non-add)
- Aerial Yoga in Indonesia (YA) (to become an Aerial Yoga Teacher you first need to be a 200hs Teacher)
- Hatha online with an Indian School (YA)
- Vinyasa online with Briohny Smith (YA)
- Anatomy for yoga with Jason Crandell (YA)
- and more
Here are my 5 tips to help you with your Yoga teacher Training decision:
1 – Choose a style of yoga that really resonates with you, the one you enjoy practicing the most.
2 – Get in touch with the teachers, and try to get to know them a little beforehand. The YTT can be quite intense and better if you empathize with the teacher’s style in advance.
3 – Choose one or 2 styles of yoga at most in a YTT. Aside from the fact that there will be little time for too much information, you will put yourself under a lot of stress when you finish the course. Imagine that you will have to be able to prepare classes for maybe 4 different styles of yoga instead of concentrating on one or two and reusing them until you feel confident for more.
4 – If your plan is to have yoga as your main income then make sure “Business of Yoga” is part of the course syllabus.
5 – Be careful in prioritizing the Yoga Alliance certification over the quality of a course. This one is a bit tricky because if your plan is to do a long career probably at some point you will need to have the certification. I can explain that in the call*.

I am happy to share my experience and help you if I can.
I remember when I was doubting about doing my first YTT. Choosing a yoga teacher training was quite overwhelming it would have been a great help to have someone who guided me in a holistic way in my decision.
